KTI participated in numerous projects as external expert or partner. Amongst others it joined consortiums in SEE projects e.g.: ship waste management (WANDA) and potentials of integration of the maritime and river transport in the logistics chain (WATERMODE). KTI has history in FP7 projects too: developing methodology for innovative freight transport solutions (AIMS) and building database and drafting Best Practice guides to facilitate dissemination of international experiences (DIRECT-MAT).
The airLED project covers the transport and logistics aspects of airport development. This requires a professional institution with experience in both transport planning and logistics solutions to explore the state-of-the-art of Airport cities and assist the regional partners in developing their regional development plans. The transport issue is crucial, because economic development around airports is greatly influenced by the transport network, capacity and service levels; on the other hand, spatial development itself has an impact on transport demand.
The staff is highly experienced in transport planning and in international projects. KTI provides two experts (senior researchers) for the thematic pillar “transport and logistics”, who will be members of the Assessment and Support Group (ASG). They will assess regional plans, design transnational outputs and contribute to the EU reflection process.
KTI has expertise in the analysis of the extent and quality of transport infrastructure provision, transport demand (demand modeling) and the spatial analysis of transport catchment areas. KTI’s planning philosophy is based on intermodality: the integration of different transport modes, which is a very important issue at and around airports. They use cost benefit and multi-criteria analysis to assess the feasibility of infrastructure investments – also an important issue for airport cities.
KTI shall contribute to the project with its experience in building strategies, writing pre-feasibility studies, conducting examinations and analyses.
